THE LION AND THE EAGLE
An eagle stayed his flight, and entreated a Lion to make an alliance with him to their mutual advantage. The Lion replied, "I have no objection, but you must excuse me for requiring you to find surety for your good faith, for how can I trust anyone as a friend, who is able to fly away from his bargain whenever he pleases?"

Rita's Thoughts: Friendship does not happen because of the words we speak. True friendship is bonded by staying power and faithfulness. In the hard places, when others walk away, a true friend remains by your side and loves you anyway. ...with little gain to himself outside of the relationship.

Sense of Humor

"Hang loose!" The impression came that I needed to do something with a little humor in it. So, I began to think of the delightful Giraffes at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida.

They are so comical. Perfectly, they have come to know us. They know if they stick out their fifty foot tongue (ha,ha) we will stuff their mouth with cookies (special made) and carrot sticks.

When the giraffe kept turning up in some of my paintings last year, I began a search to understand what it might stand for. Eventually, someone told me that the giraffe stands for "grace."

This funky giraffe looks well feed.....satiated with carrot sticks. With his understanding and great intelligence, I think he knows he is full of grace, as well. The scriptures tell us the animals worship God, yes, even the rocks worship Him. My imagination moved me forward with a little sense of humor.

Thus, the name: "Full of Grace and Carrot Sticks" by me.

WIND DANCER - The Poem

We wait for its stirring ---Our voice calls it forth
The Wind: God's Mystery
His Breath from Kingdom's shore,
It seems at Light's first appearing
The Fire of Morn searing
It stirs the bowels of Heaven
And sings the earthly score.
Tis then I feel the strength to be
Tis then my feet leap high in glee
And whirl and fly the Heavenly Sky
I dance the Wind is by my side
Round and Round upon the land
The sea does churn -
Love's Fire burn
Me! Swallowed whole
In and out
Wind Dancer laughing
In Love about.

It is the way
We wait each day!

Window into my World: The past! - BECOMING A LIVE ABOARD

Many of you don't know that Hal and I sold our beautiful condo in Hot Springs, Arkansas in the mid 1990s and bought a sailboat. We docked and lived in Clearlake, Texas for over a year, getting our new home, the My Fair Lady, ready for her trip. Clearlake is just north of Galveston. We docked at the Watergate Marina: one of the best Marinas we visited during our following years as a live-a-board. It is where we also found our famous sea going cat, Professor Higgins. After many interesting encounters and plenty of dockings, we arrived in Titusville, Florida on June 2, 2002. We were on our way to the Cheasapeake Bay area. A suddenly happened and we sold our boat. We had been live-a-boards off and on for eight years. Titusville became our home. And, the Professor retired in style to roam and protect the grassy dome of our back yard. Since then, Higs has gone on to greener pastures to a place called "Over the Rainbow."

I can still remember the day we sailed into the Titusville City Marina. It was very windy! A lovely lady by the name of Linda greeted us as we crashed towards the dock. She grabbed our lines and helped secure us to the dock as Hal worked the helm of the Lady. "You are safe, now!" She gently welcomed us. Jim and Linda were the practiced sailors aboard the "There You Are." Preciouse people to greet us and make us feel welcome in Titusville.
